Visit from Eliza McCartney, May 2017

Cadets and parents from TS Leander, TS Achilles and TS Bellona had the privilege of Eliza McCartney, Olympic Bronze Medallist in Pole Vault, coming to speak to them. She had some excellent words of wisdom for the cadets on how to deal with the stress of competitions and both physical and mental health.

This evening TS Leander was very pleased to host @tsbellona and @ts.achilles to listen to @eliza_mac_ as she spoke to the cadets. Eliza imparted her wisdom and anecdotes about her career as an athlete and her journey #nzcf #cadetforces #tsleander #elizamccartney

Everyone in attendance thoroughly enjoyed this special experience. Eliza was insightful, humorous and thought provoking in answering the cadet’s questions; from how she felt when she was at the Olympics and the sudden realisation that she was in contention for a medal to how she has grown as an athlete. The cadets were even treated to a funny story of running beside Usain Bolt on the Olympic track during her victory lap and getting moved along by the photographers who were really wanting a photo of Bolt.
 
We cannot thank Eliza and her team enough for allowing the cadets this opportunity to learn more about determination, perseverance and how to deal with competition results you weren't expecting.
