2021 has been a very different and interesting year for Training Ship Leander
ANZAC Day this year was the first time in 2 years that our regular parade and cenotaph guard was conducted. We were proud to support the Devonport RSA by providing a cenotaph guard, providing assistance on Poppy Day, and by conducting our annual clean of plaques along memorial drive.
In May our regatta team was combined with Training Ship Chatham to compete in the Northern Area regatta. The team worked hard to be awarded the overall winners of the Northern Area regatta. We also won the Seamanship Trophy and the Fitzgerald Challenge Cup. We wished congratulations for Training Ship Achilles as they won the national regatta on behalf of the Northern Area
POCDT Pieters went on a trip aboard HMNZS Aotearoa stating “It was interesting being on the ships bridge observing and taking on board what the RNZN do on a day-to-day basis while on a ship. Watching the Officer of the Watch do their job and learning exactly what they do while on the bridge”
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, like a number of other organisations, we were restricted in our activities, with over 45% of our parades being conducted virtually via zoom. Fortunately, we were able to host joint parade nights with Training Ships Chatham and Waikato.
We would like to thank our supporters
From the Ships Company we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
